Joey Barton's application for bail was refused
Former footballer Joey Barton has been denied bail following a court hearing.
The 43-year-old, of Widnes in Cheshire, has been in custody since 10 March, when he appeared at Liverpool Magistrates' Court charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm with intent.
He and co-defendant Gary O'Grady, 50, of Huyton, Merseyside, are accused of attacking former football manager Kevin Lynch near Huyton and Prescot Golf Club on 8 March.
Judge David Potter refused Barton's bail application at Liverpool Crown Court. The former Manchester City and Newcastle midfielder, who did not attend the hearing but was represented by Simon Csoka KC, will next appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 7 April.

Kevin Lynch, former manager of Prescot Cables and City of Liverpool football clubs, was left in hospital
The majority of Barton's bail hearing was held in private before the judge announced his ruling in open court.
O'Grady was released on conditional bail after his magistrates' court hearing on 10 March.
Barton made one England appearance and also played for Rangers, Burnley and Marseille.
He now hosts the Common Sense With Joey Barton podcast, which is described as an "unfiltered" look at issues in sport, society and politics.
