The Champions League may grab many of the headlines, but the Europa League has quietly become a showcase for some of Europe’s brightest stars. Last term, despite finishing 17th in the Premier League, Tottenham won the competition ending a 17-year trophy drought by beating Manchester United in the final. This season, the tournament looks wide open and there will be a host of emerging talents looking to make their mark on the continental stage.

From prolific strikers leading the line for heavyweight contenders to midfield maestros driving their sides forward and defenders already linked with moves to Europe’s elite, the Europa League’s most valuable XI is packed with young stars. Transfermarkt takes a closer look at the line-up that best represents the talent on display this season - and why these players will be central to the battle for silverware.

The XI is dominated by the two Premier League teams, with Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa providing seven of the 11 players between them. In between the sticks is Porto shot-stopper Diogo Costa, who is worth €40 million and the joint-most valuable keeper in the world right now. At left-back is Villa's Ian Maatsen (€28m), with team-mate Ezri Konsa (€35m) filling in at right-back. The Forest pairing of Murillo (€55m) and Nikola Milenković (€35m) complete the all-Premier League back four.

In central midfield, Villa's Amadou Onana (€50m) is joined by Stuttgart's Angelo Stiller (€45m). Just in front of those two is Forest skipper Morgan Gibbs-White (€50m). On the right-wing is Porto's teenage talent Rodrigo Mora, who has a current market value of €40m. On the opposite wing is Villa's Morgan Rogers (€55m) - the joint most valuable star in the team alongside Murillo. Leading the line is Porto's third inclusion in striker Samu Aghehowa (€50m).
