Galatasaray vice-president Abdullah Kavukcu has repeated his belief that Hakan Çalhanoğlu will join the Turkish giants in the future. It’s no secret that Gala have twice been rebuffed in their attempts to sign Çalhanoğlu by Inter Milan. It’s understood that the Süper Lig club had a €17 million bid rejected for the Turkish international last summer and Inter rejected another approach during the January window.

But in an interview with La Gazette dello Sport, Kavukcu is adamant that Çalhanoğlu will play for his boyhood club Gala in the future. “Yes, we made another attempt for Çalhanoğlu in January,” confirmed Kavukcu. “There was a discussion with the Inter directors, but we were told that Hakan would not leave during the winter market. We have never hidden our interest. Hakan is an icon of the Turkish national team and supports Galatasaray. I don’t know when, but I am certain that one day we will see him playing for us.”

Çalhanoğlu is contracted at Inter until 2027 but there’s a feeling that the Italian giants could cash in this summer before he enters the last year of his deal. The German-born midfielder remains an important player for the I Nerazzurri, registering 12 goal contributions across 23 appearances with Inter overwhelming favourites to win Serie A. But Inter are expected to embark on a rebuild this summer with the deficiencies in their squad exposed against Bodo/Glimt and Gala could finally land their target.
