The transfer window slammed shut on Monday night for the majority of top leagues after another frantic deadline day. It was a record deadline day with €767 million spent by clubs, which eclipsed the previous record of €518m from the 2023/24 season. The biggest deal on deadline day was Alexander Isak completing his protracted move to Liverpool for an English transfer record fee of €145m.

It was another hectic summer window with clubs breaking the record for total spend. Over €10 billion was invested in new players - currently €10.32b - which eclipsed the record of €8.86b from the 2023/24 season. While the window has closed for the top five leagues, the transfer window remains open in some nations like Turkiyie and Saudi Arabia. Transfermarkt’s famed market values were established in 2004 to provide an indication of how much players are worth on an open market. Using those figures, we’ve analysed which clubs lost the most market value across the summer transfer window.

Which clubs lost the most market value across the summer transfer window?

To say Bayer Leverkusen had a summer of upheaval would be the understatement of the century as they lost the majority of their best team and manager. Xabi Alonso departed for Real Madrid and former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag lasted just two Bundesliga games as he was sacked amid off-field issues. Leverkusen’s squad valuation dropped by €254 across the transfer window - more than any club - with key players like Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Jonathan Tah and Granit Xhaka departing.

As the graphic above illustrates, RB Leipzig rank second with their market value dropping by €170. The main factor behind this is the high-profile departures of Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United and Xavi Simons to Tottenham - Bundesliga clubs have enjoyed huge success in extracting substantial fees from Premier League clubs this summer. The only top five league not represented in the top ten is Serie A with Juventus losing most market value of any Italian club (-€41m) and ranking 13th.
