Mo Salah wins main award

The 2025/26 Premier League season got underway last weekend but the biggest players in English football gathered on Tuesday night to celebrate the previous season. The Professional Footballers’ Association annual awards were held at Manchester’s Opera House with various gongs handed out. The awards are the most prestigious in English football as they are voted for by the players, as opposed to journalists or supporters.
Morgan Rogers collected the PFA Young Player of the Year award after an outstanding season with Aston Villa that yielded eight goals and 11 assists in the Premier League. Mohamed Salah collected the main award after 47 goal contributions in the league as Liverpool won a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title - it was the third time that Salah has collected the award. Premier League players also voted for their team of the season and there were some interesting selections.

Unsurprisingly, Liverpool had the most representatives in the PFA Team of the Year with four of Arne Slot’s title-winning squad selected. Captain Virgil van Dijk, Salah, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister were all voted for by their fellow professionals. Milos Kerkez was also voted in with the left-back joining the Merseyside club from Bournemouth in the summer.

Arsenal finished runners-up for the third consecutive season and three of Mikel Arteta’s men were recognised by their peers - William Saliba, Gabriel and Declan Rice. Nottingham Forest enjoyed an incredible campaign by securing European football with Matz Sels and Chris Wood voted into the 11. Finally, Alexander Isak was a notable absentee from the ceremony amid his standoff with Newcastle over his desire to join Liverpool but the Swedish international also made the team. Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes missed out despite being nominated for the main Player of the Year award.
