Broke assist record

Federico Dimarco has been voted as Transfermarkt’s Serie A player of the season by our community. Inter Milan were crowned champions in Italy to regain the Scudetto from Napoli as they finished 11 points behind Antonio Conte’s men. After replacing Simeone Inzaghi, Christian Chivu endured a difficult start to life as I Nerazzurri manager but he eventually led Inter to their 21st Italian top-flight title, which moved them two clear of rivals AC Milan.
Dimarco was instrumental to Inter’s success featuring in 30 of their 38 games and his attacking output was simply incredible. Deployed at left wing-back, the 28-year-old led Serie A for goal contributions with 25 and he also broke the league’s assist record. The Italian international provided 18 assists for his teammates, which is a Serie A record as he confirmed his reputation as one of the best players in the world in his position.
Dimarco collected 24.35% of the overall votes ahead of Kenan Yıldız in second (15.54%) with the Transfermarkt community able to vote for their best player in each position. AC Milan’s Mike Maignan (34.92%) won the goalkeeper category, Dimarco was obviously victorious amongst defenders (61.98%), Como sensation Nico Paz (40.08%) for midfielders and Lautaro Martínez for strikers (37.61%).To gain insight into Dimarco’s outstanding season, we spoke to Stefano Buonfino, Serie A expert at Transfermarkt.

Federico Dimarco was chosen as the face of the Serie A season also because he was perhaps the most important player for Inter’s Double, even more than captain Lautaro Martínez, who missed nearly three months through injury. Playing as a wing-back in Chivu’s 3-5-2 system, Dimarco recorded the highest number of goal contributions in Serie A (25), more than Lautaro, Marcus Thuram, Yildiz, and Nico Paz, thanks to 7 goals and 18 assists His 18 assists also represent an all-time Serie A record since the statistic started being officially tracked.
