Transfermarkt has updated the market values of 65 players playing in Greece’s Super League 1. While PAOK midfielder Giannis Konstantelias remains the most valuable player at the top with a market value of €17 million, the gap to second place has shrunk significantly to just €2m after second-placed Christos Mouzakitis received a significant upgrade.

The 18-year-old Olympiacos midfielder received a significant upgrade as part of the Super League 1 update. The Athen’s native saw his market value increase by 25% from €12m to now €15m. The upgrade isn’t surprising given that Mouzakitis is already being scouted by the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal. Still, his rise in market value stands out. Just one year ago, Mouzakitis’ market value was only €450,000.

Mouzakitis isn’t the only Olympiacos star with a significant upgrade. Also among the big winners at the Champions League club are 22-year-old goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis (+€3m to €13m) and striker Gabriel Strefezza (+€1m to €7m). Another player to watch at Olympiacos is 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder Diogo Nascimento. Signed from Vizela for €4m this summer, consequently, Nascimento saw his market value increase from €2.5m to €3.5m. "Tzolakis is now the most valuable Greek goalkeeper," Area Manager Greece Nikos Sofis said. "Odysseas Vlachodimos still holds the record for most valuable Greek goalkeeper in history with a market value of €16m. But Tzolakis is expected to break it."

Greek Super League 1: Upgrade for Filipe Relvas – Ups and downs at Panathinaikos

The many upgrades at Olympiacos aren’t surprising given the club’s 10 points from the first four games. The same as AEK Athens. The club from the capital had a strong start to the season, and AEK are currently second in the standings. As a result, defender Filipe Relvas is one of the big winners of the update. The 26-year-old Portuguese defender saw his market value increase by 16.7% from €3m to €3.5m.

Meanwhile, there were positives and negatives at Panathinaikos, who managed to keep Olympiacos to a 1-1 draw on Sunday. The point against their eternal rival was just the second this season. Despite the negative start, Argentine midfielder Vicente Taborda saw his market value increase by €500,000 from €4m to €4.5m. Also, on the up is American Erik Palmer-Brown (+€100,000 to €1m). "His value might have increased only slightly, but with potential to increase even further in the main update in winter," Sofis said about Palmer-Brown. Several Panathinaikos players experienced downgrades—among them are Pedro Chirivella (-€500,000 to €4m), Georgios Kyriakopoulos, Ahmed Touba (both -€500,000 to €2m), and Tonny Vilhena (-€300,000 to €1m).

How Transfermarkt market values work

The Transfermarkt market values are calculated, taking into account various pricing models. A major factor is the Transfermarkt community, whose members discuss and evaluate player market values in detail. In general, the Transfermarkt market values are not to be equated with transfer fees.

The goal is not to predict a price but an expected value of a player in a free market. Both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant in determining market values. Examples of this are listed below. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (you can find the detailed market value definition here).
