Nottingham Forest have completed the loan signing of Douglas Luiz from Juventus, with a buy-option included in the deal. It’s a major coup for Forest to land the Brazilian international as they aim to build on their Premier League success from last season. Luiz only joined Juventus last summer from Aston Villa for €51.5 million, but he failed to nail down a starting place in Italy, playing just 877 minutes.
Transfermarkt understands that Aston Villa will pay Juventus an initial loan fee of €3m with an obligation to buy clause of €25m based on the number of games he plays for Forest. It’s also understood that Forest also possess an option to sign Luiz for €30m - if he fails to play the amount of game required to trigger the buy option. Manchester City were seriously interested in a loan deal for Luiz in January but the 27-year-old will return to the Premier League with Forest.

Luiz becomes the eighth arrival at Forest this summer with Nuno Espírito Santo strengthening his squad for their return to the European stage. Forest will play in the Europa League, and it’s the first time they’ll participate in European competition in 30 years. Speaking on joining Forest, Luiz said: “I am really happy to be here, it’s a big Club and I decided to come here because I can see the ambition the Club has. I am so excited to start with the team and give my best for the shirt and the fans.”
“It’s been a very busy but successful period for us in the window in the past few weeks, and Douglas is another addition to the squad that will bring significant quality to the group," chief football officer Ross Wilson said in a club statement. "He’s played at the highest level for a long time, understands the demands of the Premier League, and has experience playing in elite European competition. We’re delighted that Douglas now joins the group, and we are sure that he will be warmly welcomed by everyone at Nottingham Forest."
