Serie A returns this weekend and it’s poised to be another thrilling campaign. The Italian top-flight is the most competitive of the top five leagues with four different title winners across the last six seasons. Napoli clinched the Scudetto on a thrilling final day last season as Antonio Conte made history by winning Serie A with a third club, after success with Juventus and Inter Milan.

Napoli are favourites to retain their title but Inter are expected to pose a major challenge once again. After defeat in the Champions League final, Simone Inzaghi departed for Saudi Arabia with Cristian Chivu returning to the club as manager. Juventus will be aiming for an improved season while their former boss Massimiliano Allegri tasked with overseeing a rebuild at AC Milan. Using Transfermarkt data, we’ve analysed the most valuable combined XI in Serie A.

Most valuable combined Serie A XI

Interestingly, Napoli (€457m) only ranks fifth for most valuable squads in Serie A, despite being the reigning champions. Inter Milan have the most valuable squad at €706m and they dominate the combined XI with five players included. Lautaro Martínez is the most valuable player in Serie A at €95m and he leads the line with AC Milan duo, Rafael Leão and Christian Pulisic on the wings.

As the graphic above illustrates, two Atalanta stars feature in midfield in Ademola Lookman and Éderson. Lookman, however, wants to leave this summer but he’s expected to remain in Italy with Inter keen on his signature. The only Napoli player to feature in the XI is Alesandro Bunongiorno with the Italian international joined by three Inter players in defence.
