With the conclusion of the transfer season, Transfermarkt has updated the market values of 138 players competing in Belgium’s Jupiler Pro League. The market value update has produced a new most valuable player. Club Brugge star Christos Tzolis saw his market value increase by 20% from €25m to €30m to surpass his teammate Joel Ordóñez (unchanged at €28m).
“Tzolis has been omnipresent for Club Brugge and the Greek national team in this early stage of the season and, together with Hans Vanaken, is one of the key figures in Club's qualification for the Champions League League Phase,” Area Manager Belgium Bart Tamsyn said. “He now has six goals and eight assists in the first 17 games of the season. If he maintains this form, a top transfer to a major league next summer seems inevitable.” The Greek winner isn’t the only player with a significant market value update at Club Brugge.
Joaquin Seys has also been outstanding for the club. “After Maxime De Cuyper, he looks set to be the next left-back from Club Brugge to make the jump to the Premier League,” Tamsyn said. “He is even more prominent than last season and, with four goals and two assists in 14 games, has excellent statistics for a full-back. He was also called up for the Belgian national team the last three times but had to withdraw each time due to injury. His sensitivity to hamstring injuries currently seems to be his biggest weakness.” Despite the injuries, Seys sees his market value increase by 87.5% from €8m to €15m.
Belgian market values: Karetsas & David up – Stroeykens among downgrades
Tzolis isn’t the only Greek international to undergo a significant upgrade. Among the top upgrades is also 17-year-old wonderkid Konstantinos Karetsas. “Considered the top talent in the Belgian league for over a year now, he is currently playing his first season as a regular starter at KRC Genk,” Tamsyn said. Like the team, he still seems to need to find his rhythm, but he did make an impact with the Greek national team in early September. It would be surprising if he did not break KRC Genk's outgoing transfer record of €26 million next summer.” As a result, Karetsas is up by 15% from €20m to €23m.
Also, on the up is Canadian men’s national team forward Promise David. “With five goals in ten games, Promise David is simply continuing what he did last season, namely scoring important goals,” Tamsyn said. “He also became Union Saint-Gilloise's first-ever goalscorer in the Champions League. At 24, he is not the youngest player in the Belgian league, but if he continues like this, Union could potentially get €20m for him next summer.” David saw his market value improve from €11m to €13m. His new market value further solidifies David’s position as the third most valuable Canadian, behind Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich) and Jonathan David (Juventus).
There were also some significant downgrades. Among them is RSC Anderlecht midfielder Mario Stroeykens. The 21-year-old dropped by €2m to €10m. Another top-ranked midfielder with a downgrade is Mathias Delorge from KAA Gent. The 21-year-old dropped by €1m to €8m. Also, down by €1m is former Tottenham, Fenerbahçe, and Monterrey striker Vincent Janssen. The 31-year-old Royal Antwerp forward saw his market value drop by 14.3% from €7m to €6m.
