Highest transfer spend ever - This summer breaks the record in a single transfer window

This summer transfer window has been jam-packed with drama. The Premier League transfer record has been broken via Florian Wirtz's €125 million move from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool. Manchester United have spent over €200m assembling a brand-new front three. Real Madrid have spent over €150m on defenders. Arsenal have the highest net spend in the world, and hijacked north London rivals Tottenham's move for Eberechi Eze. Alexander Isak's future remains uncertain.

This summer has had it all. And among the chaos, unprecedented amounts of money have been changing hands. The 2025/26 summer transfer window has now broken the record for the most money spent in a single transfer window, eclipsing the €8.85 billion that was spent in the summer of the 2023/24 season. The current rolling figure for this summer stands at €8.86b, and with five days to go until the window closes that will keep rising.

Top 10 transfer windows with most money spent

The majority of this summer's €8.86b has been spent by Premier League clubs. In total, clubs in the English top-flight have already spent €2.91b during this summer's window. The biggest deals so far have been Wirtz to Liverpool (€125m), Hugo Ekitiké to Liverpool (€95m), and Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United (€76.5m). In second spot is the 2023/24 summer window, in which €8.85b was spent, with the most expensive deal Arsenal' €116.6m signing of Declan Rice. The third most lucrative window came last summer, with clubs spending €8.07b.

All the way back in 2019/20, the summer window from that season takes fourth spot, with €7.64b spent. As one may expect, each of the 10 windows with the most money spent have been during summer windows, where clubs tend to do most of their lucrative business. But no window can match this summer's huge spend, which will almost certainly end up exceeding €9b by Monday's deadline, and could even get close to €10b, with plenty of other huge potential deals still on the horizon.
