Earlier this week, José Mourinho returned to Stamford Bridge where the legendary Portuguese manager firmly cemented his reputation as one of the best coaches in history. It ultimately ended in disappointment for the 62-year-old as Chelsea inflicted a 1-0 defeat on Benfica in the second matchday of Champions League games.

Mourinho returned to the club where he started his managerial journey last month and he famously made his name at Portuguese rivals, winning back-to-back European titles. That earned the box-office boss his big move to the English Premier League in 2004 with Chelsea. Mourinho famously labelled himself the ‘Special One’ in his maiden press conference and he stated that he’d ‘always be a blue’ when facing the press in London this week. After his return to Stamford Bridge, we’ve analysed which managers boast the best home record in the Premier League era at one club, across all competitions.

The best home records of Premier League managers

Since the English top-flight was rebranded as the Premier League in 1992, Arne Slot has the best home record of any managers - we’ve excluded coaches that have taken charge of less than 25 games. The Dutchman has led Liverpool out at Anfield in 33 games across all competition, amassing 82 points at an average of 2.48 points per game (ppg). Slot’s record narrowly edges out Pep Guardiola, with the Manchester City boss amassing an average of 2.47 points per game at the Etihad.

As the graphic above illustrates, five Chelsea managers feature in the top ten list with Antonio Conte edging out Mourinho. The current Napoli manager’s record at Stamford Bridge was 2.38 ppg, which eclipses Mourinho’s record of 2.38. Perhaps surprisingly, Sir Alex Ferguson only ranks sixth in the list (2.37 ppg), despite Old Trafford being a fortress as the Scotsman led Manchester United to a record 13 Premier League titles.
