Two European giants meet in Istanbul in the Champions League this Tuesday. Galatasaray may not have the same European pedigree as their opponents and seven-time winners Liverpool, but they have a huge fanbase and their RAMS Stadium is infamous for being a tough place to go. Especially in the cauldron of a European night under the floodlights. The last time these two teams met was in the 2006/07 Champions League group stage. If those matches are anything to go by we could be in for a treat. That season, Galatasaray won 3-2 in Istanbul, whilst Liverpool themselves won 3-2 at Anfield. Over the years, an exclusive club of just 12 players may have donned both the famous orange shirt of Gala and the iconic red of Liverpool, but who are they? Transfermarkt has you covered.
The 12 players to have played for Galatasaray and Liverpool
We have ranked the 12 players by total appearances played for both clubs combined. In first place in that respect is former Dutch winger Ryan Babel who played a total of 246 games for both clubs - 146 for Liverpool between 2007 and 2011, and 100 exactly for Galatasaray between 2019 and 2022. Second goes to Aussie Harry Kewell with a total of 230 matches, representing the Reds 139 times between 2003 and 2008 and Gala 91 times between 2008 and 2011. Next is former Czech striker Milan Baros with a grand total of 224 apps for both teams - 108 for Liverpool and 116 for the Turkish side.

We then have six other footballers who played for both but only managed less than 100 games: Dean Saunders (91), Emiliano Insúa (81), Brad Friedel (68), Abel Xavier (33), Ozan Kabak (31).
