Few players can be classified as a journeyman more than Álvaro Morata and the 32-year-old has been on the move again this summer. The Spanish international joined Galatasaray on-loan from AC Milan in January but he’s been the subject of a complicated exit from the Istanbul giants. Following the permanent signing of Victor Osimhen, Morata was viewed surplus to requirements at Galatasaray and AC Milan had found another suitor for him in Como - the eighth club of his professional career.
The obstacle to the deal was that Gala had paid around €6m to AC Milan for an initial loan fee and the deal included an €8m obligation to buy in January 2026. Gala were happy to let Morata go to avoid the obligation clause kicking in but they wanted compensation on their €6m loan investment. Como were initially willing to pay €3m to facilitate an early termination with Morata refusing to return to pre-season training in Türkiye. After extensive negotiations, AC Milan and Gala agreed terms for an early termination of his loan deal on August 10th and Morata has now reunited with Cesc Fàbregas at Como.
Alvaro Morata joins Como on-loan after Galatasaray agreement
On Tuesday evening, Como announced Morata’s arrival on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy included. It’s understood that Como will pay their fellow Serie A outfit AC Milan an initial €1m loan fee, with the buy clause set at €9m. Morata currently ranks sixth for accumulated transfer fees in history and he’s famously won titles in Italy, Spain and Türkiye, plus two Champions Leagues. Morata has played alongside his new manager Fàbregas with Spain and Chelsea.
Speaking on the acquisition of Morata, Fàbregas said: “I’ve known Álvaro for many years and I’ve always admired the way he plays and the way he carries himself. He’s an intelligent striker who has delivered in the biggest moments and a teammate who lifts everyone around him. We’re so happy to have him here at Como.”
