World Cup semi-final

France and Spain meet in a mouthwatering World Cup semi-final in Dallas tonight. The two heavyweight nations have plenty of history in recent years, including the semi-finals of Euro 2024 and the nine-goal thriller in the Nations League last year. France will participate in their eighth World Cup semi-final with Spain only in their second but it’s incredibly difficult to predict a winner.
France have the best attacking talent in the competition but they’ll come up against a Spanish side who’ve kept five clean sheets and conceded just once. Both sides are stacked with world-class talent with Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal two of the biggest superstars in the game. Based on Transfermarkt’s famed market values, we’ve assembled the combined XI of the most valuable players in history from both nations!
France vs Spain: All-time most valuable XI
The combined team features five French players and six Spanish with an eye-watering total market value of €1.33 billion. The highest market value ever assigned to a player on Transfermarkt is €200m with Mbappé and Yamal both possessing that valuation at stages in their career - Erling Haaland and Vinicius Junior are the only other players to be valued at €200m. Mbappé first received his market value of €200m in 2018 at PSG, while briefly returning to that valuation in 2025 at Real Madrid, while Barcelona starlet Yamal has possessed that market value since 2025.
As the graphic above illustrates, Antoine Griezmann completes the front three with Paul Pogba the only Frenchman in the midfield trio alongside Rodri and Pedri. Jordi Alba and Marcos Llorente are the two Spanish full-backs with William Saliba - the most valuable centre-back in history - forming a partnership with Raphaël Varane. Former Manchester United star David de Gea is the goalkeeper.
