With his brace for Bayern Munich in the 3-0 win over Werder Bremen on Saturday, Harry Kane reached a special milestone in his distinguished career. The 32-year-old not only scored the 500th senior goal, he also converted his 100th goal from the penalty spot. With his tally this season now reaching 26 goals, it's certainly feasible that Kane could also break Robert Lewandowski's goal record in a single Bundesliga season (41).

It took the English frontman 743 games to break the 500-goal mark overall. He has scored 126 goals in 131 appearances for Bayern since his 95 million transfer from Tottenham in 2023, in addition to the 280 goals in 435 games he notched for his boyhood club. At the start of his career, he also scored 16 times in a total of 60 games for Millwall, Leyton Orient and Leicester City while on loan from Spurs. Only at Norwich City did Kane fail to score in five appearances. The captain has found the net 78 times in 112 international appearances for England.

With his opening goal against Werder, Kane also reached the milestone of 100 converted penalties. He rarely misses from the spot, with only 13 attempts missed, a success rate of 88.5 per cent. That puts him up there with the greatest penalty takers of all time, let alone his generation.

Kane chasing Lewandowski's record at Bayern Munich

In Bremen, Kane ensured that with his brace, he scored at least two goals in a game for the seventh time this season. After 22 matchdays, he has 26 goals – the same number as former Bayern striker Lewandowski in 2020/21, when he set the goal record of 41 goals in a campaign. Kane scored one goal less in the 2023/24 Premier League season, finishing the season with 36 in total.

Speaking about his achievement after the game, Kane said: "Anything is possible, of course there is still a long way to go and it is an incredible record. I am in good form and I am happy to have scored again today and helped the team. Of course, I am proud to have scored 500 goals. But it was hard work, so I am delighted that I have achieved it. But the most important thing today was that we won and didn't concede a goal."
