Casemiro will bid farewell to Manchester United this summer and the clubs of two of the most famous footballers in history are battling for his signature. The Brazilian international confirmed last month that he will depart Old Trafford at the end of the season after four years in England. Casmeiro is enjoying a brilliant final season at United and there’s been growing calls for him to remain for one more year.

The 34-year-old, however, poured cold water on that speculation by confirming the decision to part ways. In an interview with the Athletic last week, Casemiro said: "I’m still enjoying it. It is huge, the affection that the fans have shown towards me. But I do really believe the decision is made and done. I believe there will be some difficult moments, these [final] games at Manchester United." The midfielder has been linked with several destinations since his departure was confirmed but in a fascinating subplot, Casemiro could be lining up alongside Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi next season.

Where next for Casemiro?

Ronaldo and Messi shared one of the most iconic sporting rivalries, especially when both were at the peak of their powers at Real Madrid and Barcelona. The legendary duo share 13 Ballon d’Ors awards between them and they are both still producing impressive numbers in the twilight years of their careers. Ronaldo is chasing his 1,000th career goal at Al-Nassr, while Messi remains the best player in MLS at Inter Miami.

And both clubs are set to compete against each other for Casemiro’s signature, according to various reports. Earlier this week, Fabrizio Romano claimed that Casemiro’s representatives had already made progress with Inter Miami over heading to the United States. Now Marca has reported that Ronaldo is pushing for Al-Nassr to sign his former Real Madrid teammate. Casemiro’s preference remains unclear but Messi and Ronaldo’s presence at two suitors makes for an interesting subplot.
