The Bills landed a new top target for quarterback Josh Allen, agreeing to a trade with the Chicago Bears to acquire wide receiver DJ Moore, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Thursday.

Buffalo is sending a 2026 second-round draft pick to Chicago in exchange for Moore and a 2026 fifth-round selection, sources told Schefter.

The Bills will be guaranteeing $15.5 million of Moore's $23.5 million base salary in 2028, agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey told Schefter. Moore's $23.5 million base salary in 2026 is fully guaranteed, and his 2027 base salary, also $23.5 million, becomes fully guaranteed next week.

The trade cannot officially be processed until the new league year begins next Wednesday.

Moore, who turns 29 on April 14, will be reunited with new Bills head coach Joe Brady. He played under Brady with the Carolina Panthers when Brady was the team's offensive coordinator in 2020 and for most of the 2021 season. (Brady was fired in December 2021.) Two of his best seasons came under Brady in Carolina, including averaging a career-high 18.1 yards per catch in 2020 and totaling over 1,100 receiving yards both years.

Bills president of football operations and general manager Brandon Beane also traded for a wide receiver during the 2020 offseason, giving up a first-round pick as part of a deal for receiver Stefon Diggs, who played for the organization for four seasons.

The wide receiver position was a significant need for the Bills this offseason given a lack of consistency at the position throughout the 2025 season. Moore will join a receivers room for the 2026 season that has some question marks regarding their status outside of Khalil Shakir, including Keon Coleman, Joshua Palmer and Curtis Samuel, Moore's former Panthers teammate.

Moore was traded to Chicago as part of a package that sent the No. 1 pick to the Panthers in 2023. His instant connection with former Bears quarterback Justin Fields netted a career year for Moore, who churned out 1,364 receiving yards and eight touchdowns during his first season with the Bears.

But since the 2023 season, Moore's production has dipped, the byproduct of new offenses, new playcallers and a new quarterback. During Caleb Williams' rookie season in 2024, Moore had a career-best 98 catches for 966 yards and was once again the team's leading receiver, but the 2025 season led to a role change for the 2018 first-rounder.

The emergence of tight end Colston Loveland along with wide receivers Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III led Moore to a career low in catches (50) and receiving yards (682). Two years after the Bears gave the receiver a four-year, $110 million contract extension -- the largest in franchise history -- Chicago sought a way to create space among a crowded crop of pass catchers.

Moore's durability was among his best assets during the 2025 season. With Odunze sidelined for five games because of a foot injury and Burden's emergence beginning at the midway point of the season, Moore played all 17 games and was on the receiving end of some of the greatest catches of the season, including a 46-yard walk-off touchdown in overtime to beat the Green Bay Packers on Dec. 20.
