Over the last few years, Jonathan David has been linked with a transfer to a top club every single transfer window. Now, David is poised to join Italian giants Juventus. The 25-year-old forward announced in May on his social media channels that he will leave Lille when his contract expires at the end of the season. The striker was then linked to several clubs, but Transfermarkt can confirm a report by Fabrizio Romano that David has a verbal agreement in place with Juventus. A deal is now imminent.
In May, Canadian men’s national team star used a video message to say goodbye to his club and fans, for whom he scored 109 goals and 30 assists in 231 games since 2020. In 2021, David won the Ligue 1 title and the following year the Super Cup. For Lille, the announcement was a significant financial setback. With a market value of €45m, the striker was the most valuable player in the squad, and there were opportunities to sell the striker for a significant fee. Other clubs, however, refused to meet Lille’s financial demands. David will become the most expensive free agent to move clubs behind only Trent Alexander-Arnold, who joined Real Madrid from Liverpool ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup..
How will Jonathan David fit in at Juventus?
How will Jonathan David fit in at Juventus? The 36-times Italian champions are in need for a new striker as the loan deal for Randal Kolo Muani will expire on July 15. There are also doubts on whether Dusan Vlahovic will continue his career with the Bianconeri beyond this summer. The Serbian striker will be out of contract next summer, and this is the last year Juve have the ability to cash in on the striker. All of this means there is a need up front for the Italian to bring in an additional striker. David has been a reliable striker for both Lille and Canada (35 goals in 66 games). He also provides a different profile. Although not build like a typical no.9, David is a great box player and very dynamic with plenty of international experience.
