Since the turn of the millennium, some of football’s finest shot-stoppers have stood tall between the posts - and their clean sheet tallies tell a story of dominance, discipline, and sheer goalkeeping brilliance. From Premier League legends to LaLiga icons and Bundesliga brick walls, Transfermarkt has crunched the numbers to reveal the goalkeepers with the most clean sheets in Europe’s top-five leagues since 2000. These are the men who’ve made a habit of keeping the opposition out.
Goalkeepers with most clean sheets in top-5 leagues since 2000
Leading the way is legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon. The former Juventus player managed 263 clean sheets in 560 games in the top-five leagues for Juve, Parma and PSG. In second place is Spaniard Pepe Reina who clocked up 255 clean sheets in 665 matches for Barcelona, Villarreal, Liverpool, Napoli, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Aston Villa, Lazio and Como - something of a journeyman. In third position is Manuel Neuer with 238 clean sheets in 523 games - the German could still add to that figure and climb the list with Bayern Munich next season.
Former Chelsea and Arsenal keeper Petr Cech is fourth with 231 clean sheets in 513 matches, whilst ex-Slovenian keeper Samir Handanovič takes fifth with 204 clean sheets in 566 games. In sixth is Hugo Lloris with 204 clean sheets in 579 matches. He is followed in seventh by Thibaut Courtois with 189 clean sheets in 437 games - the second player on the list still playing in the top-five leagues. Steve Mandanda is eighth with 184 clean sheets, followed by fellow Frenchman Mickaël Landreau in ninth with 183 clean sheets. Former Spanish keeper Victor Valdés completes the top 10 with 182 clean sheets.
