Huge sell-on clause

Antony is on the verge of returning to Real Betis after the Spanish club reached an agreement with Manchester United. The Brazilian winger excelled on-loan at Betis during the second half of last season with nine goals and five assists in 26 appearances for the Seville side. It’s understood that Antony will return to Betis on a permanent deal for €25m, with a further €3m in potential bonuses.
United have also included a 50% sell-on clause for any profit that Betis receive on a future transfer of the Brazilian. It’s been a complicated deal to complete with Betis threatening to pull out due to the financial terms but dispute over payments has been resolved. Antony has taken a significant wage cut to return to Betis and the 25-year-old was hoping that United would subsidise that shortfall.
Antony to leave Manchester United on permanent deal
It’s fair to say that Antony’s time at Old Trafford has been an unmitigated disaster. United overpaid massively to sign the winger from Ajax in 2022 with Erik ten Hag desperate to be reunited with the Brazilian. Antony remains United’s second biggest signing in history at €95 million, behind Paul Pogba at €105m. It all started brightly for Antony with a goal on his debut against Arsenal but he struggled to adapt to English football and ended up just 17 goal contributions in 96 games for United.
