Christian Kofane has burst onto the scene this season at Bayer Leverkusen to attract interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world. The Cameroon international was a relatively low-key addition in the summer with Leverkusen acquiring him for just €5.25 million from Albacete. Little was known about Kofane, but the Bundesliga side have potentially unearthed a diamond and they could struggle to keep him in the summer.
The 19-year-old hadn’t played a single minute of professional football by the start of 2025 but he flourished after joining Albacete and scored eight goals in the Spanish second-tier. Leverkusen viewed Kofane as a project player when they signed him but he’s firmly established himself as a first-team player. The striker - valued at €40m on Transfermarkt - has also impressed in the Champions League and he’s being chased by several top clubs, with Arsenal leading the race.
Christian Kofane’s Bundesliga form
After requiring time to adjust to a top five league, Kofane has progressed from an impact substitute into a regular starter. The attacker has only started 10 of Leverkusen’s 27 Bundesliga games but five of those have arrived in the last seven games. Kofane’s attacking output isn’t extraordinary but it’s still an impressive return for his maiden season in a top league. He’s scored five goals and provided four assists in the German top-flight, which ranks him fifth for goal contributions amongst teenagers.
Speaking on the Transfermarkt market value podcast, Bundesliga expert Manuel Veth said: "It's not necessarily the goal scoring that stands out. It is the way he uses his body and his physicality to make room for others that makes him such an outstanding profile and a player that is really rare to find. Coaches always say one thing: you can't teach size. And that's definitely something with him. The raw duels are so high and the physicality is so high. And his understanding of seeing players around him is already at such a high level at 19."
Which clubs want Christian Kofane?
It’s understood that Leverkusen want around €60-70m for the Cameroon talent this summer, which could potentially deter suitors given the relatively small sample size. But Kofane is unquestionably an exciting talent and he’s been monitored by a host of Premier League games. And reports in Germany suggest that Real Madrid are also interested, while Bayern Munich are, naturally, tracking his progress.

Eric Depolo, Kofane’s agent, has confirmed Arsenal’s interest and claimed that he’s currently the best young striker in Europe. “Yes, Arsenal’s interest is genuine,” said Depolo. “The manager [Mikel Arteta] likes him very much. There is contact between me and Arsenal. He is a €100 million player. With Kofane, Arsenal will have a top striker for the next 10 years. Right now, he is the best U21 striker in Europe and the most complete one. He has speed, technique, defends very well and is strong in the air.” Leverkusen remain in a battle to secure a European place this season but Kofane could well be the latest talent they sell for a massive fee.
