Cardiff City are free to resume their January transfer work after an EFL transfer embargo was lifted, with Everton goalkeeper Harry Tyrer set to become the League One leaders' first signing of the winter window.

Cardiff were placed under an embargo last week for failing to submit their annual accounts on time.

The Bluebirds had maintained an administrative issue had been behind the delay and stressed it would "not impact their January recruitment strategy".

With paperwork now filed, Cardiff have been cleared to register players between now and the transfer deadline on Monday, 2 February.

Tyrer, 24, has agreed a move to Cardiff City Stadium and completed a medical.

He will provide competition for current number one Nathan Trott, one of Cardiff's star performers this season following his loan move from Copenhagen.

Boss Brian Barry-Murphy had stated the temporary transfer ban did not cause any concerns for Cardiff, who are bidding to return to the Championship at the first attempt following last season's relegation.

A left-back could also be on the wish list as Cardiff look to maintain their lead at the top of the table.

Barry-Murphy's team take on third-placed Bradford City at Valley Parade on Saturday (12:30 GMT).
