British wildcard Jack Pinnington Jones saw his Wimbledon hopes ended in the second round as he was beaten by Italy's Flavio Cobolli in straight sets.

After producing an impressive display to see off world number 27 Tomas Martin Etcheverry for a maiden Grand Slam win in the first round there was plenty of interest from the home fans for his match against Cobolli on court 18.

But there was to be no dream run to the third round on his Wimbledon debut for Pinnington Jones as he lost 6-1 7-6 (8-6) 6-2.

The 22-year-old was outclassed in the first set as he was unable to get anywhere near Cobolli's serve, but showed the same battling qualities that got him the first round win in a much closer second set.

Both players broke each other's serve once before the match went to a tie-break, where Pinnington Jones looked in control as he led 3-0, but Cobolli fought back to snatch it and take a 2-0 lead.

That clearly deflated the British hopeful and his serve was broken twice more in set three as Cobolli breezed through to round three.
